UMUAHIA NORTH LGA WINS AS GOV OTTI UNITY GAMES END

The maiden edition of the Governor Alex Otti’s Secondary Schools Unity Games has ended in Umuahia with athletes from Umuahia North Local Government Area emerging the overall champion of the competition.

The Umuahia North athletes garnered a total of six-one medals.

Aba South Local Government athletes clinched second with fifty-eight medals while Isuikwuato secured forty-six medals to go home with the third position.

Handing over the trophies to the overall winning team at the Umuahia Township Stadium, Governor Alex Otti, appreciated the enthusiasm with which the secondary school students across the local government areas of the state accepted the competition.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Pastor Caleb Ajagba, the Governor commended the unprecedented manner in which the teaming number of youths coordinated themselves without chaos or casualties during the competition.

Governor Otti, who applauded the winners of the trophies, reiterated his resolve to transform sports in Abia State and make it a business venture that would bring economic benefits to youths and the state at large.

He urged principals of secondary schools to revive sports activities in their schools.

Also, the Director of Sports, Abia State Sports Council, Comrade George Obioma, commended Governor Otti for approving the unity games, stressing that the step would boost sports in the state.

Comrade Obioma pointed out that such competition would help to discover talents in different games.

Radio Nigeria gathered that participants in the one week competition went home with medals and certificates while plans to further the education of the victorious students are being made by the state government.
