TEENAGER GETS DROWN IN EBONYI RIVER

A fifteen year old boy, Ifechukwu Nwuzo, had been drowned in Ebia River in Amike-Aba area of Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital.

The deceased, who had been residing with the father in Awka, Anambra State, relocated to Abakaliki to live with his elder sister and other siblings following the death of his mother last year.

Late Ifechukwu was revealed to have gone to swim in the Ebia River during a picnic in the afternoon against the instruction of elderly ones, who warned him that his safety was not guaranteed in the river.

After he meet his Waterloo, his clothes and sandals were found at the upper side of the river when he was traced to venue by relatives.

The deceased uncle, Mr. Chukwudi Obi, called on the Ebonyi State Emergency Management Agency and the community leaders to barricade the river and other related ones to prevent more disaster as children had persistently been trouping to the river for unwarranted picnic.

As of the time of filing this report the body of Ifechukwu was yet to be brought out of the water as some close relatives said they were trying to reach out to experts swimmers to do the job.
