REPORTER: UCHE NDEKE

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, has distributed wears worth millions of naira to the needy in Ugbenu community in Awka North Local Government Area.

The distribution was part of the outreach programme embarked on by members of the members of the Union led by its Chairman, Dr. Emeka Odogwu.

The exercise took place at St. Andrews Anglican Church Field, Ugbenu, had some community and religious leaders as well as beneficiaries of the outreach programme in attendance.

The wears included clothes, shoes and bags.

Dr. Odigwu, said that he deemed it necessary to encourage members of the union to donate and contribute to the outreach, as it was more blessed to give than to receive.

Dr. Odogwu noted that considering the hard economic realities in the country, where people could no longer afford ordinary food to eat, the beneficiaries would at least have clothes to cover themselves while scouting for their daily living.

The NUJ Chairman commended the immediate past interim Chairman of the union, Comrade Francis Ekpone, who hails from Ugbenu community for contributions towards the growth of the community.

Receiving members of the NUJ, the President General of the community, Mr. Samson Ojo, thanked journalists in the state for the gesture and for choosing Ugbenu.

He prayed God to replenish them bountifully.

Mr. Sampson used the medium to call on other members of the society to touch lives positively, no matter how little, in order to enjoy God’s blessings, especially now that many people could no longer afford what to eat let alone going to buy clothes.

In a remark, the Chairman of NUJ committee that organized the event, Dr. Ebele Okonkwo, explained that the committee worked very hard in sourcing and sorting the items,

Dr. Okonkwo noted that the beneficiaries would enjoy whatever (shoes, bags and clothes) they get in good fate as they were donated by public spirited individuals.

The Reverend Father Felix Etikwudo of St. Andrews Catholic Church, Ugbenu who described the outreach as one of the steps taken by the missionaries to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to the people, thanked the NUJ for deeming it necessary to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged and downtrodden in the area.

Some of the beneficiaries, including Mr. David Nnamah, Mr. Silas Onukwube and Mrs. Grace Jideobi, applauedd members of NUJ, Anambra State Council for remembering them, praying for God’s blessings and orotection as they go about contributing towards a better society.

The people also used the opportunity to commend the Anambra State Government for completing a road project that had lasted long in the area, which enabled the NUJ to drive safely to meet them.
