Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has charged traditional rulers to redouble their efforts in strengthening community policing in their areas. The Governor gave the charge during a meeting with traditional rulers in Owerri.

He urged traditional rulers to ensure that people with questionable characters were not engaged in vigilante groups in their communities in line with the community policing initiative of the Federal government to maintain security of lives and property.

Governor Uzodimma warned that he would not tolerate a situation where monarchs reside outside their communities and added that royal fathers had a role to play in the emergence of Presidents-General in their areas. Meanwhile the Chairman Imo state council of traditional rulers Eze Samuel Ohiri has pledged the commitment of the monarchs in assisting the government to realize its objectives.

Speaking to newsmen in his palace, Eze Ohiri expressed surprise over reports that the council has been dissolved noting that governor Uzodimma was yet to do so.

He however stated that he would not hesitate to relinquish the position of the Chairman of traditional anytime the council is officially dissolved but warned against actions capable of distracting the government.
