STOP ATTACKING POLICEMEN ON LAWFUL DUTIES — ABIA CP WARNS YOUTHS

Reporter : LAWRENCE NWOKEDI

The Commissioner of Police Abia State Command, Mrs. Janet Agbede, has warmed youths to stop attacking Police men that are carrying out their lawful duties in the state. Mrs. Agbede gave the warning while speaking with Radio Nigeria in her office in Umuahia.

She noted that some youths attacked her men who went to arrest some suspects at various locations in the state claiming that the IGP had given directive for Police to stop arresting people. Mrs. Agbede said the Inspector General of Police (IGP) never gave such directive.

She explained that the IGP’s directive was rather to the Federal Special Anti Robbery Squad F-SARS and other tactical response teams in the force, who were ordered to abstain from carrying out conventional low risk activities like stop and search, road blocks and traffic controls on the road.

Mrs. Agbede noted that Police have full right to arrest anybody suspected to have committed a crime.

The Police Commissioner also warned that the command would not fold it’s hands and watch miscreants disrupt policemen from carrying out their lawful duties. She assured residents of the state of the command’s readiness to provide adequate security to them.
