Making the development known in a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ABIA State command, Mrs. Maureen Chinaka, said the incident happened about 11am on Sunday when some operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad of the command came under attack on Ngwa Road by Mosque Junction, Aba.

The statement explained that during the exchange of gunfire, two of the assailants were neutralized, while others escaped with various degrees of bullet injuries.

The statement, however, noted with regret that a police officer identified as Inspector Shehu Oyibo and three civilians were killed by bullets from the assailants.

It indicated that their remains had been deposited at a mortuary as investigation continued.

The statement urged the public to go about their lawful activities without fear, as officers had been deployed to strategic locations in the state to ensure the protection of life and property.

It also urged residents of the state to report any suspicious movements or individuals with bullet injuries to the nearest police station.
