PREGNANT WOMAN DIES IN EBONYI FLOOD, 3 OTHERS MISSING

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

A pregnant woman identified as Mrs. Ozoemena Ugbega has died and many others displaced as flood submerged several homes at Imogo Igbudu community in Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

Three other persons were also reportedly missing as a result of flooding, which also ravaged farmlands in Inyimagu and Ekpomaka communities in the same LGA.

The Commissioner for Human Capital Development in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Ann Aligwe, who visited the communities, explained that a search operation was on going to recover the missing persons.

Mrs. Aligwe said that Governor Francis Nwifuru had approved that relief materials be moved to the affected communities while those who survived be taken to a safer ground.

The Commissioner said other communities, including Unagboke, Ngbo Agbaja and Onuebia were also affected by flood while the victims had been evacuated.

Mrs. Aligwe appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) for urgent intervention in the provision of relief materials.
