POLICE ARREST 5 FAKE EFCC OPERATIVES IN ABIA

Police have arrested five men for their alleged involvement in conspiracy, armed robbery and impersonation in Umudike, Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in the State, Mrs. Maureen Chinaka, said four men in EFCC uniforms came to a hostel in Umudike, Ikwuano Local Government Area and dispossessed some students of their phones and forced them to transfer a total of one hundred and twenty thousand naira to their account.

The statement said following credible intelligence, the suspects, James Victor, who claimed to be an EFCC official, and one Chidozie Onwuzuruike, were apprehened alongside three others: Onyedikachi Ihechukwumere, Onwuka Christopher and Tochukwu Obinna who were picked up at the Man-of-War base of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike.

The statement listed items allegedly recovered from the suspects.

They included four of the six stolen phones, a tricycle used by the suspects, four red-coloured jackets with EFCC inscription, two fake identity cards, one toy gun, and four fake EFCC search warrants.

It sais Investigations into the matter was still ongoing, and urged Abia residents to be security conscious, and report suspicious activities to the police whether those involved were in uniform or not.
