PEACE RALLY: IMO GOV’S WIFE DOLES OUT CASH GIFTS TO OKIGWE WOMEN

Wife of Imo State Governor, Mrs. Chioma Uzodimma, has reassured women of her continuous support to ensure their welfare

Mrs. Uzodimma gave the assurance at an empowerment programme for 350 women from Okigwe Zone held at Añara Central School, Isiala Mbano Local Government Area.

She pointed out that the present administration in the state had, for the last three years, engaged women in various skills to keep them busy for the development of the zone.

In an address, the National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) Princess Gloria Akobundu, explained that the purpose of the programme was to call for women inclusiveness in governance.

Princess Akobundu said the women of Okigwe zone had decided to seek for peace, unity and progress to enable the government to achieve peace in the state.

The Special Guest of Honour and Imo State Governor, Chief Hope Uzodimma, agreed that without women and youths, there would be no meaningful development.

The Governor promised to carry women along in delivering the dividends of democracy.

Governor Uzodimma, who reiterated the importance of women, assured them not to take their support for granted, especially the matters that concerned women.

There were other women who were key note speakers namely, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs Mrs. Ruby Emele; the Sole Administrator of Okigwe LGA, Mrs. Nkechi Mbonu; the member representing Onuimo, Isiala Mbano and Okigwe Federal Constituency, Princess Miriam Onuoha.

The event was attended by top Okigwe leaders among whom were a former Governor of Imo State, Chief Ikedi Ohakim; and the Speaker Imo State House of Assembly Mr. Chike Olemgbe.

The highlight of the event was presentation of Cash gifts to the women.
