GOV NWIFURU EMPOWERS 500 HAWKERS

Ebonyi State Government has empowered five hundred hawkers with one billion Naira to enable them to undertake other meaningful ventures.

At the event in Abakaliki, the State Governor, Francis Nwifuru explained that the hawkers, who are indigenes of Ebonyi, would be trained for the acquisition of choice skills in line with his administration’s People’s Charter of Needs.

He said of the one billion Naira, each of the beneficiaries would receive two million Naira and announced his phone number to the hawkers for direct complaint should they be shortchanged by the payment officials.

The Governor noted that the aim was to lift many out of poverty, noting that as a former bricklayer, he understood that one might have skills without fund for takeoff.

The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry in the state, Mr. Oguzor Ofianwali, echoed that the beneficiaries were of Ebonyi State origin doing hawking businesses and menial jobs in various parts of the country.

He noted that the state government targeted to empower about one thousand, five hundred of them.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Anthony Idika, said the financial empowerment and training were huge relief as he had struggled for a long time in life without any economic breakthroughs.
