Ahead of its primaries for the 2023 general election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the South East Zone has announced that it aligned with the position of the Southern Governors’ Forum that the next president of Nigeria should come from the southern part of the country.

It also directs that the zoning patterns in states and constituencies where it exists in the zone must be strictly observed and adhered to.

Addressing journalists at the end of its Zonal Executive Committee (ZEC) meeting at Government House Enugu on Sunday 27 March, the National Vice Chairman, South East, of the party, Chief Ali Odefa, stated that it was unanimously agreed that the PDP should zone the presidency to the southern part of the country.

On the issue of zoning elective political positions in states and constituencies where it exists in the zone, Chief Odefa maintained that it must be observed and adhered to.

The National Vice Chairman also said that the committee during the meeting made interventions for its members holding political and elective positions in Anambra State, who did not defect to other political parties in the time of gubernatorial election in the state in 2021 but stood by the PDP during the turbulent period, to be given support to return to their various offices.

He added that the Zonal leadership of the party will make a presentation to the National Working Committee for assistance in that regard.
