Over thirty-one thousand, eight hundred persons have received the first dose of COVID-19 Astra Zeneca Oxford vaccine in Enugu State.

The Executive Secretary of the State Primary Health Development Agency, Dr. George Ugwu, who made this known in Enugu, said this figure represented ninety-seven percent of the number that should be vaccinated in the first phase.

He said the State Government got an initial sixty-five thousand, four hundred doses, noting that the target was to use up half of it for the first phase, which he said was being rounded off this week.

Dr. Ugwu explained that the result so far received across the globe showed that those vaccinated had better resistance against the virus and called on leaders of different groups to sensitize their members to go for the vaccine.

Two people who came for the vaccines, Justice Francis Ezeike and Mrs. Sophy Ezeike, said they had discovered that it had no serious adverse effect.

They urged those yet to be vaccinated to come for the jab to ensure everyone was safe.
