CONSTITUTION REVIEW: IMO, ABIA STATES DEMAND ABOLITION OF LAND USE ACT, DEVOLUTION OF POWER

Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has appealed to the people of the south east to take advantage of the on-going public hearing by the senate to alter some sections of the Nigerian Constitution to address the issue of equity and fairness agitating their minds.

Declaring the Imo and Abia States public hearing open in Owerri, Governor Hope Uzodimma noted that the people of the south did not need secession rather they were more interested in a just Nigeria where equal rights and justice would reign supreme.

Governor Uzodimma expressed the optimism that constitutional issues such as rotational presidency, state police, devolution of power, resource control and indigeneship in a state after ten years of residency would be addressed by the on-going exercise.

The Chairman of the Public Hearing Committee for Imo and Abia States and Chief Whip of the Senate, Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu, gave an assurance that issues canvassed by participants and memoranda received would be given fair consideration by the National Assembly.

Dr. Uzor Kalu, who read the address of the Chairman Senate Committee on Constitution Review and Deputy President of the Senate, Chief Ovie Omo Agege, said time had come for the people to have input in the document governing their affairs and called on Nigerians to have faith in the process.
