OBJ’S LETTER TO BUHARI GENERATES MIXED REACTIONS

The Presidency is yet to react to the 18 page letter written by former President Olusegun Obasnjo to President Muhammadu Buhari in which he advised the president not to seek re-election in the 2019 general election.

The Presidency said it was still studying the letter.

Meanwhile, reactions have continued to trail Chief Obanajo’s letter. Already National Assembly members were divided on the issue.

While some commended Chief Obasanjo’s boldness to properly advise the president, others were of the opinion that Nigerians should be allowed to decide through their votes.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP also pointed out that the letter had vindicated the party on its position concerning President Buhari’s re-election bid.

For a Professor of International law, Akin Oyebode, the former President’s letter was a timely intervention considering the numerous issues in the country.

Professor Oyebode who advised President Buhari to give thought to the letter said that most Nigerians were already discouraged and needed a more vibrant and proactive president to move the country forward.
