The Director General, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Brigadier General Muhammed Fadah, has warned Corps members to desist from engaging in the local politics of their host communities but sustain the spirit of patriotism imbibed during their Orientation Course.

He made the call during the closing ceremony of Orientation Course for 2022 Batch B Stream One Corps members at NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp, Old Macgregor College Afikpo, Ebonyi State.

Brigadier General Fadah whose was represented by the State Coordinator of the Scheme in the State, Mrs. Bamai Mercy expressed the hope that the corps members would strive to meet the expectations of Nigerians by contributing towards the progress and development of their fatherland.

“In keeping with the objectives of the Scheme, you are expected to integrate into your host communities while also appreciating and respecting their cultures.

“I must, however, emphasize that engagement in their local politics is a no-go-area for you,” he warned.

Brigadier General Fadah urged the Corps members to be security conscious and avoid acts that could endanger their lives, including staying out late, attending night parties, and acceptance of car ride from strangers.

He assured them that the management would remain committed to ensuring that their security and general welfare were guaranteed.

“Accordingly, we are in constant liaison with security agencies and other stakeholders with the view to ensuring your safety as well as addressing other essential needs for a fulfilling service year,” he promised.

The Director General reiterated his warning against unauthorized journeys and night trips, pointing out that travelling at night would not only increase the risk of accident, but also make rescue difficult.
