REPORTER: CHINAZO ILECHUKWU

A forty year old man, identified as Reuben Chibueze, has been arrested by the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Imo State Command for allegedly defiling his sixteen year old step daughter.

Parading the suspect in Owerri, the State Commandant of the Corps, Mr. Micheal Ogar, said the suspect was nabbed following a distress call.

Mr. Ogar said the suspect battered his wife and later sent her away from the house, one fateful evening and later proceeded to have carnal knowledge of her step daughter with the threat of stabbing her if she resisted.

The wife of the suspect, Mrs. Chioma Chibueze, who confirmed the incident, alleged that her husband had abused her serially.

She noted that the man once made an unsuccessful attempt to rape her daughter two years ago but later promised not to repeat the act after being caught.

Although the suspect denied committing the crime, the victim corroborated the account given by her mother and added that she was traumatized.

The Commandant, Mr. Ogar, also paraded two women for their alleged roles in child trafficking and child battering.

He said they were arrested following  intelligence, stating that the suspects would soon be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for prosecution.

While Amarachi Emmanuel was accused of collecting huge sum of money as payment to traffic a child, Chinenye Ejimkonye, was in custody for physically abusing her house help, miss blessing Opara, who said she jumped out of a storey building due to fear of her madam and broke her limb in the process.

The NSCDC Commandant in Imo State warned those, who were in the habit of maltreating their wards, to desist or face the wrath of the law while victims of such ill-treatments should not hesitate to report to the Corps.
