NDLEA ARRESTS 60 SUSPECTED DRUG DEALERS IN IMO

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Imo State command has arrested sixty drug suspects.

The suspects comprise fifty-five male and five female within the age bracket of seventeen and sixty.

The command also  seized 646.93 kilograms of hard drugs made up of cannabis sativa, heroine, methamphetamine and tramadol from January to June, 2021.

The NDLEA Imo State Commander, Mr. Nse Jack Inam, announced this while speaking with journalists in Owerri on the 2021 International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit dDrug Trafficking.

The day aims to reawaken the consciousness of the people on the major problems that drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking pose to the society.

The event is to combat misinformation on drug abuse and share drugs-related facts as well as solutions to the fight against the drug abuse all over the world.

Speaking on The theme for the 2021 celebration, which is “Share Facts on Drugs, Save Lives,” the NDLEA state commander,  Mr. Nse Jack, noted that the command had counselled 47 drug users and admitted 15 drug addicts for rehabilitation through its drug education, sensitization and public enlightenment programme.

“In the last quater of last year, we embarked on these activities in selected communities in the three senatorial districts  of the state.

“Arrangements were also made to continue the state wide programme this year, 2021, but for the insecurity problem in the state.

“The project is however not abandoned as we intend to revive it as soon as normalcy returns to the state,” he stated.

Mr. Inam decried the adverse effect of  insecurity and  Judicial Staff Union of Nigeria strike on the operations of the command.

He reiterated that the command would take the war against drugs to the nooks and crannies of the state to ensure a drug free environment.

“We are increasing our offensive actions in line with the directive of the present chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the Agency.

“We will beam our search light on the activities of patent medicine dealers and the likes to ensure they do not continue to be one of the channels for the dispensation or sale of illicit substances”

“We will go after the assets of illicit drug dealers and those who allow their property to be used for illicit business,” Mr.  Inam threatened.

The NDLEA boss, while appreciating other sister security agencies and the media for their relentless effort in fighting crime, called on the residents , parents, religious and community leaders to join hands to curb the menace of drugs in the state
