MONITORING OF SCHOOL FEEDING PROGRAMME COMMENCES IN ABIA

REPORTER: LAWRENCE NWOKEDI

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, says the introduction of the National Home Grown School Feeding Programme for pupils in primary schools across the country has been of great benefit to Nigerians.

Speaking with journalists in Umuahia during Monitoring and Enumeration of pupils benefiting from the programme, the Team Lead of the Monitoring, Mrs. Florence Chukwude, said that they were in Abia State to verify data of pupils in government owned primary schools that were being fed through the programme.

According to Mrs. Chukwude, over nine million children are currently benefiting from the programme nationwide and that additional five million children would be reached through the program by the year 2023.

Mrs. Chukwude commended the federal government for the success of the programme. However, she identified malfunction of data machines used in some areas visited by the team as one of the challenges been faced in the verification. Some of the schools visited during the verification were the Ugba Primary School and Communty Primary School Ndume Otuka both in Umuahia North Local Government Area.
