INEC, POLICE READY FOR IMO ASSEMBLY BYE ELECTION

The people of Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State will on Saturday February 26, 2022 file out to elect a lawmaker to represent the constituency in the State House of Assembly.

More than 70,000 registered voters are expected to exercise their franchise in the bye-election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) said it had concluded arrangement to ensure a hitch-free outing.

Briefing journalists in Owerri ahead of the election, the INEC Resident Electoral Commission in Imo State, Professor Francis Ezeonu, assured stakeholders that the commission would conduct a free, fair and credible election to fill the vacant seat declared by the Speaker as a result of long abscence of the former lawmaker representing the area from his legislative duties.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Rabiu Hussaini, had in a statement warned that police would deal decisively with anyone who would want to disrupt the election and advused parents to caution their children and wards.

He announced restriction of movement from 6am to 4pm except those on essential duties.
