INDIGENT PERSONS IN OJI, ENUGU STATE SMILE HOME WITH GIFT ITEMS

Beneficiaries of gift items from a Non-Governmental Organization, Target,Health,Education and Economic Empowerment, THEEE INITIATIVE have been urged to reciprocate the gesture by showing love and kindness to their neighbours especially this festive season.

The Chairperson of the organization, Mrs Ifeoma Anyalebechi made the call while distributing gift items to widows and indigent persons at Enugu-Akwu Achi in Oji River Local Government Area of Enugu State.

THEEE INITIATIVE was established in 2008 with the aim of empowering widows, widowers, orphans and physically challenged people in Enugu-Akwu Achi.

The organization which is funded by an indigene of the area, resident in the United States of America, Mr.Victor Obi Anadiume and wife has empowered over fifteen thousand people in different areas since inception.

According to the Chairperson of the organization, Mrs Anyalebechi, more than two thousand people are expected to benefit from this year’s empowerment which include wrappers, rice and tinned tomatoes.

Mrs Anyalebechi who explained that the organization was committed to putting smiles on the faces of indigent people in the area noted that the sponsor had no political motive as it had been a long year practice.

“we should embrace what he is doing. If he can bring all these to give us,he is trying to tell us to remember the next person. Whatever you have,try to share,show love.He is showing love to the community, we should be able to translate that love to our next door neighbour.You move around you see people, you are eating,your neighbour is not eating”.

Also speaking on the occasion, the Vicar, St.Matthias Anglican Church, Enugu-Akwu Achi, Rev.Cannon Chukwuma Ugwaegbunam noted that he chose to be part of the yearly event because it was a demonstration of a true christian life, urging other wealthy individuals to do the same.

“It is a very big encouragement to our widows because we serve in the grassroots, we know there are people who doesn’t have anything to eat.I have always call on this wealthy men,there is no way we can know that you are wealthy unless you demonstrate it, so I call on them to remember the poor. We have poor people all around, very poor people all around, so we want to encourage them to borrow a leaf from what our brother is doing”.

Two of the beneficiaries who spoke with Radio Nigeria were full of praises and thanks to God for the gifts.

” My name is Mrs Grace Ojinwigwe,oh lord Iam very very grateful, I am saying thank you Jesus.I am very grateful for what this wonderful man have done for me”, I am Mrs Udoka Udoye,fromUmuike Enugu-Akwu Achi.I am praying that God will bless Pharmacist Victor Eze Obi Anadiume”.

Mrs Chioma Ugwuozo who came from the Special School for the blind, Oji appreciated the sponsor for remembering the physically challenged people.

“I feel very happy and I thank God Almighty for this occasion and let God bless this our Omeruoha and give him life”.

THEEE INITIATIVE apart from targeting health, education and economic empowerment of the people through its numerous programmes is also committed to promoting peaceful coexistence in the area through mediation and reconciliation.
