The Auxiliary Bishop of Owerri Catholic Ecclesiastical Province, the Most Reverend Moses Chikwe, has been abducted by yet to be identified gunmen.
A statement issued by the Archbishop of Owerri, the Most Reverend Anthony Obinna, indicated that the sad incident took place on Sunday evening of December 27, 2020 in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
The primate charged the faithful to join him in prayers for the speedy release of the Bishop.
Sources told Radio Nigeria that the kidnappers after abducting the Bishop and his driver went and parked his vehicle at the archdiocesan headquarters in Owerri.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Imo State Police Command, Mr. Orlando Ikeokwu, who confirmed the incident, said though no official complaint had been lodged, the command had activated its Quick Intervention Team and Anti Kidnapping Unit to rescue the victim and possibly arrest the hoodlums.
