GOV UMAHI DEMANDS #12 BILLION FOR VICTIMS OF HERDSMEN ATTACK AS VICE PRESIDENT VISITS EBONYI

Nigeria’s Vice President, Professor Yemi Osibanjo, has assured the people of Ebonyi State of Federal Government’s commitment to track down suspected herders who killed about fifteen persons in Nkalaha, Obegu, Amaezu and Egedegede in Ishielu Local Government Area of the state.

He made the promise at a town hall meeting to calm the frayed nerves of the people of the state at Ecumenical Centre Abakaliki.

Professor Osibanjo explained that the Federal Government would rely on evidences provided by the people of the area to investigate the matter and ensure that the victims received justice.

The Vice President noted that there was no justifiable reason for the killing of innocent people but appealed to them not to engage in self help.

Governor David Umahi said the community members had handed a document from a phone belonging to one of the attackers to the Vice President for thorough investigations.

He called on the Federal Government to release two billion Naira to the victims to enable them to rebuild their destroyed houses while NEMA and the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs should assist them with relief material.

The Vice President had before the town hall meeting visited the affected communities and also war torn Effium and Ezza Effium Communities in company of the Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Muhammed and the Minister of State for Solid Minerals, Chief Uche Oga.
