ENUGU FIRE SERVICE BOSS SUPPORTS TWO COMMUNITY SCHOOLS WITH EDUCATION MATERIALS

Enugu State Government says it is willing to partner anybody who has interest in promoting quality education in the state.

The State Commissioner for Education, Professor Uche Eze, made the statement during the presentation of educational materials donated by the Chief Fire Officer, Enugu State Fire Service, Mr. Daniel Okwudiri Ohaa, to Community Primary School, Umueze Awkunanaw, and the Central School, Obuoffia, One and Two.

The donation was made at Saint Luke Methodist Church field, Umueze, Awkunanaw, Nkanu West Local Government Area.

Professor Eze commended Mr. Ohaa for the gesture, saying that it would go a long way in boosting efforts of government to provide quality education and conducive academic environment, especially at basic level.

The Commissioner, who enjoined the head teachers to give the exercise books and other writing materials to the children, also charged them to be productive in their services.

The Chairman, Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB), Chief Ikeje Asogwa, represented by the Director, Quality Assurance Department in the Agency, Mrs. Uju Igwe, cautioned the teachers against hoarding the materials or allowing them to be carted away by hoodlums.

Chief Asogwa explained that government placed high premium to the education of the children.

In an address, the Chief Fire Officer, Enugu State Fire Service, Mr. Okwudiri Ohaa, said education was at the core of development and solution to ignorance.

Mr. Ohaa, gave an assurance that every child in the two pilot schools would get all the necessary educational materials, emphasing that investment in children would guarantee the future of the society.

“It is in the centre of my heart to make a positive impact in our society and the world at large in the areas of educating a child for a better tomorrow. It is for this purpose that I made the provision of writing materials to pupils of the above two schools.

“In view of the above, I’ve planned that every child from these two communities will get exercise books, pen, pencil, ruler, and eraser to facilitate educational activities for this 2020/2021 academic session.

“To parents, I urge you to continue sacrificing for your children’s education because, it is the most valuable asset you will give to your children.

“To the Church and other institutions not mentioned, the task of producing a quality human being is not an easy one. I therefore plead for your contribution and involvement in this area,” Mr. Ohaa appealed.

In his remarks, the Chairman, Nkanu West Local Government Area, Mr. Nwabueze Nnamani, described Mr. Ohaa’s gesture as worthy of emulation, calling on the rich in the society to assist government in the development of education.

Mr. Nwabueze, said his administration played priority attention to welfare of teachers and making sure that their salaries were paid on time.

The Head Mistress, Community Primary School, Umueze Awkunanaw, Mrs. Veronica Ejim, commended Mr. Ohaa, for the donation, with a promise that the materials would be distributed to the pupils.

“We humbly use this medium to thank the Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, for all he is doing to move education forward in Enugu State”

“We also want to use this medium to thank Engineer Okwudiri Ohaa for harkening to our cry when we cried to him for help. He constructed a sign board for us. We pray that God will reward him,” she remarked.

The Traditional Ruler of Ndiagu Obuoffia Ndi-agu Awkunanaw, Igwe Felix Nwobodoani, commended Mr. Ohaa for the gesture, and appealed to the State government to look into dilapidated structures in schools in the area.

Materials distributed to the schools comprised 6,500 customized exercise books, rulers, 700 erasers, and 750 ball pens.
