DANGEROUS: TWO PETROLEUM TANKERS COLLIDE ON EBONYI FLYOVER

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

Two trucks laden with petroleum products suspected to be diesel have collided on top Ezzamgbo flyover located at Ohaukwu axis of the Enugu-Abakaliki Expressway.

Although no life was lost, the trucks were said to be carrying 85,000 litres of the product and en route Abakaliki to Yola, Adamawa State when the incident occurred.

An eyewitness told Radio Nigeria that one of the trucks was climbing the flyover when it failed brake and was rolling backwards when it collided with another truck coming behind.

Although the trucks slightly spilled their content, there was no inferno as emergency agencies were quickly mobilized to the scene.

The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Ebonyi State Command, Mrs. Uche Chukwura, said though there was no fatality, the trucks blocked the expressway resulting in traffic being diverted to one lane.

The Public Relations Officer, Nigeria Secuirity and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Ebonyi State, Mr. Paul Odimba, said quick deployment of the Command’s anti-vandalism operatives ensured that that the content of the trucks was not tampered with by miscreants.

As at the time of filling this report, the crashed trucks have been evacuated from the site after trans-loading their content to other trucks.

The incident however damaged a section of the flyover shoulder.
