CHILDREN’S DAY:Princess Peace Nnaji advised children…

On the occasion of this year’s Children’s Day  the Enugu State Commissioner for Gender Affairs and Social Development, Princess Peace Nnaji have advised children to be of good character for self actualization.

Princes Nnaji who encouraged the children  to use this period of lockdown to study their books, stated that her Ministry would sustain its collaboration with United Nations Children’s Fund UNICEF, to ensure the well being of children.

The Commissioner warned people that send children to hawk wares and those that use children for begging to desist from such unlawful act. She explained that the Child Rights Act which has been domesticated in the State protects children from violence and abuse.

Speaking on the day, the Chief, United Nations Children’s Fund, Enugu Field Office, Dr. Ibrahim Conteh encouraged governments to ensure that provision of clean water in homes and schools is given utmost priority.

Dr Conteh who regretted that children’s day celebration this year was low key due to the COVID-19 pandemic reminded children to wash hands with soap regularly and observe social distancing and other measures put in place to contain the virus..

Dr Conteh emphasised that promoting the ideals and objectives of the charter and welfare of children characterize well-meaning governments. Some children interviewed, thanked their parents and guardians for their love and prayed God to heal the world of the COVID-19 pandemic.

They pledged to be diligent in their studies so as to contribute to the advancement of humanity.
