CAPTAINS OF INDUSTRY URGED TO SHOW MORE COMMITMENT TO DEVELOPING THE NATION’S ECONOMY THROUGH RESEARCH

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu says the Federal government is committed towards upgrading Laboratories in the nation’s academic institutions to develop research findings and facilitate growth of the nation’s industrial sector.

He stated this while inaugurating a Chemical Engineering Laboratory at Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu Alike Ikwo in Ebonyi State.

The Laboratory valued at fifty million Naira was built and equipped by the National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion in collaboration with a multinational company.

The Minister of Science and Technology, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu explained that it would be difficult to build a knowledge and innovative driven nation without a robust partnership between the government, industries and Universities.

He pointed out that the Federal Ministry of Science and Technology would continue to provide an enabling environment for such partnership and appealed to captains of industry to show more interest in using research findings to develop the nation’s economy.

The Director General, National Office for Technology Acquisition and Promotion, Dr Dan Ibrahim said government came up with the partnership because it could no longer afford to rest its economic development on imported technology.

The Vice Chancellor of the University, Professor Chinedum Nwajiuba commended the Federal Government for laying a solid foundation in the Institution noting that it had the potential of becoming the best in the world.
