Awgu Youths Assembly Debunks Claim over Alleged Govt’s Directive to Demolish Cave in the Area

The Awgu Youths Assembly has pledged to support measures by the Enugu State Government to protect lives and property in the area.

They made the pledge when the Chairman of Youths’ Organisations in all the twenty-four communities of Awgu Local Government Area, Mr. ken Onyekaonwu conducted newsmen around a tunnel located at Umuegba-Ihe axis of Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway.

Mr. Onyekaonwu who is also the Founding President of Awgu Communities Youth Leaders, noted that the area the State Government had earmarked for clearance was the thick bush surrounding the tunnel that had served as escape routes for criminals but not a cave as was being purported in some sections of the media.

Contributing, a stakeholder from Agbogwugwu Community, Mr. Benson Eze acknowledged that there caves in his community and called on Government to develop them.

The Special Assistant to the Government on Lands and Urban Development, Mr. Ugonna Ibe who is an indigene of the area applauded the efforts of the youths to ensuring security of the area, and appealed to the people to co-operate with the government to curb criminality in the State.

The youths implored the Federal Government to commence work on the abandoned portions of the Ihe-Agbogwugwu axis of the Enugu-Port Harcourt Expressway where criminal leverage on to carry out their nefarious activities.
