AUTO CRASH CLAIMS SIX LIVES AT NKWELLE JUNCTION

Six persons have lost their lives in an auto crash that occurred at Nkwelle Junction, Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, on the Enugu Onitsha Expressway.

The incident, which involved a mini bus and an articulated vehicle, resulted in a heavy traffic on the road.

According to one of the eye witnesses, Mr. Onyema Ibe, the driver of the mini bus was on a high speed when he lost control of the vehicle and rammed into a heavy duty truck.

Mr. Ibe blamed the incident on high speed and reckless driving and cautioned motorists to have respect for road signs and consider other road users while plying the expressway.

The mini bus, which belonged to a private mass transit company with registration number BGT 313 XA, was said to be on its way to Enugu when it crashed with the truck.

The eighteen seater bus had eleven male adults and six females.

The eleven passengers, who sustained various degrees of Injuries, were later rushed to Iyi-Enu Hospital, Ogidi while the corpses were also deposited at the mortuary after a medical doctor confirmed them dead on arrival.

Confirming the incident, the Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Anambra state, Mr. Andrew Kumapayi, described the incident as unfortunate and cautioned motorists to adhere strictly to rules and regulations guiding the road, especially the speed limits stipulated by the law.

Radio Nigeria observed that FRSC personnel, who arrived at the scene shortly after the incident occurred, cleared the road and ensured free flow of traffic.
