ASH & LOVE IN THE AIR AS GLOBAL COMMUNITY MARKS VALENTINE’S DAY

Today is Valentine’s Day.

On this annual event celebrated on 14th February, people around the world show appreciation to loved ones.

The day focuses on love, romance, appreciation and friendship.

This year’s Valentine day is significant as it is celebrated same day of Ash Wednesday, the beginning of 2018 Lenten Period.

The Day is a celebration of love characterized by exchange of cards, letters, flowers and gifts to loved ones, and the less privileged persons.

Common symbols of Valentine’s Day include hearts, red roses, red and white outfit and cupid.

On Valentine’s day, spouses usually celebrate the day spending time together, visiting friends and orphanages, while families express love for one another in a special way.

Speaking on the significance of the day, the Archbishop, Methodist Church Nigeria, Most Reverend Christopher Edeh observed that the true reason for the celebration had been abused by individuals who indulge in immorality and other forms of social vices.

The Archbishop while calling on parents to educate their children on the proper value of Saint Valentine’s Day,urged Christians to be selfless in their relationship with people in every area of their life.In an interview, the Founder Yordel Africa, Enugu, Mr Godwin Ogenyi attributed the irresponsible behaviour of some youths and teenagers to poor moral upbringing.

A public Affairs Analyst, Mr Tony Udegbu explained that Valentine’s day should be a time for families, communities and nations to resolve their differences.
