AFTER 11 YEARS, IMT HOLDS CONSOLIDATED CONVOCATION
Enugu State Government has assured the Institute of Management and Technology, IMT Enugu of continuous financial support to improve on its academic standard.
The Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi gave the assurance in a message to 32nd – 42nd Consolidated Convocation and 45th Anniversary of the Institution.
Addressing guests, staff and students who gathered for event, Enugu State Governor, represented by the Deputy Governor, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo promised that the government would give all the necessary assistance it could to get the institution back on track.
The Chairman, IMT Governing Council, Deaconess Ifeoma Nwobodo while commending the State Government for its financial assistance to the institution so far, called for more support from public spirited and philanthropic citizens to replace aging facilities.
Earlier, the Rector of IMT, Professor Austin Nweze was full of praise to the Enugu State Government and TETFUND for their contributions to the infrastructural development in the school and urged the graduated students to go beyond the certificates they had so far acquired.
Professor Nweze said that IMT had been affiliated to the University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) with six courses already approved for degree awarding.
The courses are Accountancy, Statistics, Banking and Finance, Marketing, Business Administration and Public Administration.
The Rector also announced that since coming on board to head the polytechnic in 2016, IMT had secured accreditation of eighteen courses in the institution and promised that many more courses would be accredited by the next visit of the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE
Four personalities, an oil magnet and renowned philanthropist, Prince Arthur Eze;the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Fidelity Bank, Nigeria, Mr. Nnamdi Okonkwo; a Nollywood Star, Evangelist Patience Ozokwor; and the publisher of Business Daily, Mr. Frank Aigbogun were conferred with the award of the fellowship of Institute of Management and Technology (FIMT).
Also some building in IMT were named after the APC Governorship candidate and business mogul, Dr. Uche Ogah; Prince Arthur Eze; and Evangelist Patience Ozokwor as a way of immortalizing their names.
One of those who was immortalized and alumnus of the polytechnic, Dr. Uche Ogah, who narrated the situation in the glorious years of IMT, noted that it was a centre of excellence in managerial and technological knowledge, no wonder it was among the most sort after institution of higher learning in the country as well as had produced outstanding academics, entrepreneur and notable personalities.
Some of the graduated students, who spoke with radio Nigeria, promised to make IMT proud in the wider society.
The Convocation, which was held at Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, was for students that graduated between 2007 and 2017.
Established in 1973 by the then East Central State Government, the Institute of Management and Technology IMT Enugu, is one of the foremost Polytechnics in the country, offering diploma and higher diploma certificates.
