ABIA STATE LAUNCHES SECURITY FUND/ SECURITY SUPPORT & RESIDENT’S CARD

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State had stressed the need for synergy among South East governments with a view towards nipping cross boundary crime in the bud.

Governor Ikpeazu made this known in Umuahia at the official launch of the Abia State Security Fund and commencement of the Security Support and Residents’ Card.

Governor Ikpeazu called on residents of the state to help government drive the initiative by enrolling and obtaining their cards.

He commended the former Governor of the State and Senator representing Abia Central, Senator Theodore Orji, for instituting the programme, when he was the Governor of the state, noting that it would help raise financial support for the security architecture of the state.

In a message, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, represented by Mr. Mathew Obodoechi, called for a stronger synergy as well as information sharing among security agencies in the South East towards crime prevention in the zone.

He lauded Governor Ikpeazu for taking a step forward to enhance security of lives and property of the people.

In a remark, the Chairman of the occasion, Senator Theodore Orji, described security of lives and property as the primary function of any government and commended Governor Ikpeazu for sustaining  the programme.

The Coordinator of the programme, Mr. Darlington Anyanwu, while giving an overview of the Security Support and Resident Card, said the initiative was created to source funds and equipment from stakeholders to support and complement the state government’s efforts in providing adequate security to the people.
