4 SECTORAL AD-HOC COMMITTEES IN ENUGU SUBMIT REPORTS…..8 being awaited

Four of the twelve sectoral ad-hoc committees inaugurated by the Enugu State Government to review various sectors of governance for optimal service delivery and good governance have submitted their findings and recommendations to the Governor.

The committees are Security, Public Service Reform, Chieftaincy and Community Maters and Education.

Receiving the documents at the Executive Council Chambers in Government House, the Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi promised to abide by the recommendations of the committees to sail the state to the shores of development and economic viability.

He reiterated his resolve to consult with respected stakeholders in the state in appointing competent team to drive the designed roadmaps of the committees.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Education Reform Committee, Professor James Ogbonna said that part of the recommendations were the need for regular training of teachers and staff members in the education sector, payment of allowance to teachers in rural areas, and teaching of Igbo language in all the schools in the State.

On the other hand, the Chairman of Chieftaincy and Community Maters, Professor Frank Asogwa stated that seventy-eight out of the four hundred and seventy one autonomous communities were with no traditional ruler, and that seventy cases were in court.

The committee recommended enactment of a law to guide the activities of the communities and part of the pre requisitefor electinga traditional ruler or President General of any community should include possession of a certain educational qualification.

Eight of the Sectoral ad-hoc committees are still being expected to turn in their findings.
