2023 CENSUS: EBONYI RESIDENTS PLEDGE ACTIVE PARTICIPATION

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

The People of Ebonyi South Senatorial Zone have resolved to collaborate with the National Population Commission (NPC) towards ensuring that quality adhoc staff are recruited to make the outcome of 2023 National Census in the area acceptable by all.

They made their feelings known during a Townhall meeting with the officials of the Commission at the headquarters of Afikpo North Local Government Area.

One of them, who is the Chairman Afikpo Traditional Rulers Council, Ezeogo Ewa Elechi, explained that he was impressed by technological innovations adopted by the Commission, emphasising that the development had given hope that figures would not be inflated.

Ezeogo Ewa stressed that community leaders in the zone would monitor the process to ensure that those to be recruited complied strictly with the set standard of ensuring that all parts of the zone counted.

Representatives of Council Chairmen in Ebonyi South, including the Vice Chairman of Afikpo North, Miss Josephine Nwogo, urged NPC to ensure that the zone was not short changed, emphasising that poor management of past National Census adversely affected the population figure of the area.

The Director National Population Commission in Ebonyi State, Mrs. Julia Manyike, said the TownHall Meeting was to encourage the people to participate in the recruitment process to avoid getting people from outside the zone to handle the Census.

Radio Nigeria gathered that similar Townhall Meeting also held in Ebonyi North and Central Zones of the state.
