TASK GOVERNMENT ON IMPLEMENTING APPROPRATION LAWS –  RADIO GUESTS URGE NIGERIANS

Some opinion leaders in South East zone have called on the Federal Government to be diligent in implementing its appropriation laws as a measure of promoting socio-economic and infrastructural development in the country.

Guests on Political Watch, a Radio Nigeria Enugu Zonal network programme, stated this while discussing the topic “Ensuring Speedy Passage of 2020 Budget.”

One of them and former Director National Orientation Agency inEnugu State, Dr. Augustine Okolie, advocated a measure to compel government in implementing its appropriation law otherwise it would be effort in futility.

He lamented the complexity surrounding poor management of appropriation law, noting that if care was not taken it would be a mere ceremonial paper work.

Another guest, a senior lecturer in Mass Communication, University of Nigeria Nsukka, Mr. NdubisiNnadi, equally condemned the manner in which the appropriation laws were violated with impunity.

He alleged that the Federal Government did not pay attention to capital budgets provision in the appropriation law.

Mr. Nnadi advised citizens to often engage relevant authorities and persons in government to ensure that budgetary allocations were released to enhance infrastructural and human development.

Another public affairs analyst in the programme, Mr. David Agu, commended President Muhammadu Buhari for early presentation of the budget.

Callers in the programme appealed to the government to be serious with budget implementation and urged law makers and civil society organisations to put up a system geared towards effective budget tracking.
