ANAMBRA CP CAUTIONS VIGILANCE GROUPS AGAINST ILLEGAL OPERATIONS

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Mr. Nnaghe Itam, has cautioned security agencies against indulging in illegalities in carrying out their operations.

Mr. Itam made this remark at Prof. Dora Akunyili Women Development Center, Awka, where he hosted the vigilance groups and other relevant security outfits in the State.

He frowned at some of the abnormalities observed among vigilantes in the communities they operate.

These included illegal detention of suspects, mob action, illegal security levy and assault on suspects.

In a statement, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Police boss restated his policing Plan that was poised to operate an all-inclusive policing system that would help scurity agencies in enforcing the law and maintaining public order and safety in the state.

Despite the warning, the statement said that the Police Commissioner commended vigilantes and other security outfits for their commitment, dedication and selfless service in assisting the Police to nip crime in the bud in the state.

He advised the security operatives not to allow themselves to be used against one another, especially in the Community they were expected to protect.

According to the statement, the CP also proposed the creation of a State Policing model anchored on the platform of the Police Community Policing Committee that would accommodate all security outfits to police the state and harmonize intelligence sharing.

Also the statement said the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy, Mr. Tony Nwabunne, thanked the CP, describing the meeting as first of its kind in the state and called for its continuous engagement.
