YPP WINS NNEWI/EKWUSIGO FED CONSITITUENCY BYE ELECTION

The Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC), has declared Mr. Ifeanyi Uzokwe of the Young Progressives Party (YPP) winner of the election for Nnewi North, Nnewi South and Ekwusigo Federal Constituency.

This followed the conclusion of the re-run election in five polling units as directed by the court earlier.

The returning officer for the election, Mr. Charles Nweke, announced that the YPP candidate, Mr. Uzokwe polled a total of 25,518 votes to narrowly defeat his closest rival, Mr. Uchenna Eleodimmuo of the APGA who got a total of 25,412 votes.

The winner, Mr. Uzokwe, who described the exercise as transparent, thanked his supporters for believing in him, promising that his major aim was to attract more dividends of democracy down to the grassroots .

In an interview shortly after the declaration, the Senator representing Anambra South Senatorial Zone, Ifeanyi Uba, commended the electoral umpire for conducting a credible election for the people and exhibiting professionalism during the exercise.

Senator Uba also extolled the security operatives for providing an enabling environment for a peaceful election to thrive.

Radio Nigeria gathered that agents of the contending political parties, including APGA and APC signed the result sheet before it was announced.
