ANAMBRA ASSEMBLY READS RIOT ACT TO CONTRACTORS
REPORTER: UCHE NEDEKE
The Anambra State House of Assembly says it is committed to ensuring that contractors handling various government projects across the state work according to specifications and standards.
The Chairman House Committee on Works and Infrastructures, Mr. Emmanuel Nwafor stated this during an interaction with government contractors and consultants at the state Ministry of Works office in Awka.
The Committee demanded that the contractors should make available relevant documents that would aid them to oversight projects across the state.
Mr. Nwafor warned that the committee would not tolerate a situation where contractors would collect contracts but without enough equipment and man power to execute the work thereby causing delays to delivery period.
He reminded them of the need to work according to contractual deadline and called on the consultants to ensure that their contractors did not cut corners but must adhere to all known standards in the execution of projects.
In a remark, one of the contractors, Mr. Daniel Nkwonta, commended the Committee for their zeal to see things done properly but appealed to the present administration to consider the payment of contract certificates for contracts executed during the immediate past administration of Governor Willie Obiano as government was in continuum.
According to Mr. Nkwonta, the situation has become pathetic as some contractors had died and others frustrated due to the non payment of the money which some of them sold their houses to execute.
