EBONYI ASSEMBLY TO INVESTIGATE EEDC
REPORTER: AMECHI ODO
Ebonyi State House of Assembly has ordered its Committee on Power to investigate the activities of Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) over alleged high tariff and epileptic power supply faced by consumers in the state.
This order followed a matter of urgent public importance brought during plenary by the Deputy Speaker, Chief Kingsley Ikoro.
In a motion, Chief Ikoro, who represents the people of Afikpo North West State Constituency, claimed that the company had been imposing high charges on the consumers without electricity supply, describing it as unacceptable.
Seconding the motion, the Leader of the House and member representing Ezza North West Constituency, Mr. Victor Chukwu, alleged that the company had been extorting the people.
The Speaker of the House, Chief Francis Nwifuru, directed the House Committee on Power to summon the company to explain why it was engaging in alleged arbitrary charges and supplying epileptic power.
