NO GOING BACK ON CAMPAIGN LEVY — GOV UMAHI

REPORTER: AMECHI ODO

Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State says there is no going back in the Executive Order imposing five million Naira levy on any political party planning to use school premises, markets and parks for campaign in the state.

Reacting to criticisms that have trailed his Executive Order on restriction of campaign in some public spaces, which Civil Society groups have described as undemocratic, Governor Umahi explained that there would be no reversal of the order.

He said those who were not comfortable with it, could go to court, noting that his political party would also be made to pay the levy if it planned to use markets, parks and school premises.

Chief Umahi said the money would be used to clean the premises and repair any property damaged in the cause of the campaign by the party.

The Governor emphasised that his administration would also strictly implement the law on signage.

He maintained that any candidate desirous of mounting bill boards must pay certain amount of money.
