ENUGU LG POLL: RESULTS TRICKLING IN, 5 FEARED DEAD AS GUNMEN ATTACK POLLING UNITS

Results of Wednesday February 23 local government election in Enugu State have started coming in from various local government in the state to the headquarters of the state Independent Electoral Commission (ENSIEC), amidst tight security.
The state chief electoral commissioner, Dr, Mike Ajogwu, who confirmed this to journalists said the final result would be announced when all the results were made available by the electoral officers from different local government areas.
Dr. Ajogwu, who had earlier assured of free, fair and credible election in all the seventeen local government areas and two hundred and sixty wards in the state monitored the exercise in some areas.
Speaking with Radio Nigeria shortly after his supervision of the conduct of the election in some polling units and wards in Enugu, Dr. Ajogwu expressed satisfaction with the peaceful conduct of the exercise as at the time of the report.
Meanwhile, there were reports of gunshots and burning of vehicles as gunmen attacked two polling units in Akpugo Community, resulting in the distruption of voting as people scampered for safety with about five persons feared dead.
However, as at the time of this report, there is no official reaction from either the police or the electoral body on the incident.
