TRADERS IN ABIA STATE TO USE GOVERNMENT APPROVED MEASUREMENT CUP OR ………?
Abia State government says any trader who refuses to use government approved measurement cup to sell goods measured with cup risks jail term.
The Commissioner for Trade and Investment, Mrs. Kate Nwosu gave the warning during the unveiling of government approved measurement cup organized by the Consumer Protection Council in Umuahia.
Mrs. Nwosu who decried the occasional fraud some traders indulge in especially when selling goods like beans, wheat and rice sold by measurement said her Ministry would monitor the compliance of the directive, adding that the law would visit anyone flaunting such directives of the government.
According to her, the Ministry had met with various Market Heads in the state with a view to sensitize their members on the dangers associated with such fraud when caught and advised them to be sincere by using the approved measurement cup.
Earlier in his speech, the Chairman, Abia State Consumer Protection Council ,Mr. Ukadike Ogbuagu noted that the organisation decided to introduce the measurement cup to check the incidence of short changing consumers while making purchases in the market, adding that an Enforcement Team had been set up in the Ministry of Trade and Investment to ensure compliance.
Mr. Ukadike Ogbuagu appealed to traders to cooperate with the Council to give Consumers maximum satisfaction commensurate with their money.
Highlight of the occasion was the unveiling of the measurement cup with the Nigerian Coat of Arm Emblem inscription.
