LAWMAKERS IN ANAMBRA STATE CALL FOR INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC SIGNS IN ALL THE ROADS IN THE AREA

traffic2Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Governor Willie Obiano to direct the Commissioner for Transport, Princess Chinwe Nwaebili to ensure that traffic signs, warning and advisory signs are installed in all the roads in the area to avert menace of road mishaps.

The Member representing Onitsha North Constituency, Mr. Edward Ibuzo made the call during a plenary session in Awka.

Mr. Ibuzo believed that the signs played a critical role in the lives of motorists by providing information and warnings of possible dangers on the roads to them.

He also agreed that traffic signs, if properly followed would help to maintain discipline on the roads and provide information on entry, exit and turning points in advance.

Contributing to the motion, the Member representing  Anambra East Constituency, Mr. Obinna Emenaka called on the Federal Road Safety Corps and other relevant agencies  to commence sensitization on the use of traffic lights by road users as many of them violated the rule.

In his opinion, the Member representing Nnewi North Constituency, Mr. Amara Anazodo insisted that most of the accidents that occurred  on the roads could have been averted, if there were road signs.

The Speaker of the House, Mrs. Rita Maduagwu suggested that young drivers should be properly trained on the use of the signs to ensure sanity on the roads.
