OKOROCHA TASKS INEC ON VOTER REGISTRATION

Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State wants the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in the state to be neutral and to ensure free and fair election.

Governor Okoroacha gave the indication when the Management team of the commission led by the new Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Chukwuemeka Ezeonu, paid him a courtesy visit at the Government House Owerri.

He said that over 60% of traders in the state did not have permanent voters card and therefore urged the commission to move to the markets and register them.

The Governor also assured the management team of enabling environment adding that Imo State had been peaceful.

Earlier, the leader of the delegation and the new Resident Electoral Commissioner, Professor Chukwuemeka Ezeonu, emphasized that the journey for the 2019 general election had begun.

Professor Ezeonu said the exercise was an opportunity for people to register, especially those who had turned 18 years or those that had relocated to new stations.

The new Resident Electoral Commissioner pointed out that Owerri municipality was the only local government where the commission had not got a land for their office for proper documentation and securing of their facilities.
