MUSLIMS TOLD TO PROMOTE NATIONAL UNITY AND DEVELOPMENT
The Chairman of South East Governors’ Forum and Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi has identified religious tolerance and love as panacea to achieving national cohesion and economic development. Chief Umahi stated this in his felicitation with Muslim faithful across the country as they celebrate this year’s Eid- el- Kabir.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Emmanuel Uzor, the Governor called on the faithful to preach peace as Nigeria makes effort to overcome divisions along religious, political and ethnic lines.
Governor Umahi further reiterated the readiness of Governors of South East zone to protect lives and property of every Nigerian irrespective of tribe or religious inclination.
Also, the Enugu State Governor, Chief Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi has felicitated with the Muslim Faithful on the celebration of Eid -el-Kabir.
Governor Ugwuanyi urged them to use the period to promote and abide by the core values of Islam for the sustenance of Peace, Progress and Unity of the country.
In a Salah message, the Governor emphasized the need for the country to celebrate the goodness of God and called on both Christians and Muslims to pray for the sustainability of peace, unity and development of the country.
While wishing Muslims the guidance, blessings and protection of Allah, Chief Ugwuanyi urged Nigerians to continue to live in harmony with one another irrespective of religious and socio-political differences.
Similarly, the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has enjoined Nigerians to eschew all forms of discrimination and imbibe self-sacrifice, forgiveness and other virtues that promote national unity and development.
Inagoodwill message to the Muslim faithful, Chief Ekweremadu enjoined them to seize the opportunity of the Sallah to recommit the nation into God’s hand.
In the meantime, the Enugu State Command of the Nigeria Police Force has assured members of the Public of their safety during and after the Sallah celebration.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. EbereAmarizu indicates that the Command has put adequate security measures in place with sister agencies and relevant stakeholders to ensure that the celebration is hitch free.
According to the statement, the Command enjoins everyone to be law abiding and security conscious.

The Federal Government declared Friday, 1st and Monday,4th September, public holidays to mark the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
