Names of three Commissioner Nominees are now before the Enugu State House of Assembly for consideration. This followed a letter from Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, urging the House to confirm them in line with the Constitutional provision.
The nominees are Messrs. Emeka Edeh, Sunday Ogbodo and Ekuchi Francis Chukwunweike. Articulating his views, the Speaker of the House, Chief Edward Ubosi pointed out that the legislators would not relent in ensuring proper screening of the nominees.
Just last week, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi sacked three Commissioners. Those affected were the Commissioners for Information, Godwin Udeuhele; Sports, Charles Ndukwe: and Inter-Governmental Affairs; Smart Ogbe.
However, it was only two commissioner nominees earlier screened by the State House of Assembly were sworn-in. They are a veteran Journalist, Ogbuagu Anikwe who now takes charge of the Ministry of Information while Joseph Udedi is now the Commissioner for sports.
Meanwhile, the House Committee on Youth, Sports and Security is deliberating over activities of the Neighbourhood Watch groups in the State. According to the Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Nelson Uduji, a lot of complaints are coming up over the alleged excesses of the group.
