MIYETTI ALLA & EBONYI STATE GOVT. MEET TO CURB FARMER-HEADER CLASH

Reporter: AMECHI ODO

The national leadership of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association has assured Ebonyi State Government of its resolve to caution its members against night grazing and other issues causing conflict between them and farmers in some parts of the state.

The National Secretary of the Association, Baba Othman Ngelzarma, stated this during a security meeting between Ebonyi State Government and herders at the International Conference Centre Abakaliki.

Baba Ngelzarma assured the state government that the national leadership of the group would henceforth hold local leaders of the association responsible for the destruction of farm crops without paying compensation in the state.

Governor David Umahi, who chaired the meeting, promised to sink boreholes at any location herders were grazing their cows to reduce their movement and encroachment on farmlands.

He urged the national leadership of the herders to address the issue of inter-state migration to ensure that criminals did not hide under the cover of grazing cows across the state to carryout nefarious activities.

Correspondent Amechi Odo reports that the state government had previously held a similar meeting with political and community leaders of the state to deescalate tension between farmers and herders in the state.
