IFAD SUPPORTS CASSAVA FARMERS FROM SIX STATES.

IFADThe Executive Director National Root Crops Research Institute Umudike Abia State, Dr. Julius Okonkwo wants government to invest more funds in the Agriculture sector to enhance the nation’s economy. Dr. Okonkwo made this known at the end of a training programme for youths drawn from six states of the federation on cassava stem multiplication at the National Roots Crops Research Institute,Umudike, Abia state.

He noted that through training, research and early disbursement of funds it would improve the sector and increase food production in the country.

Dr.Okonkwo advised the participants to make good use of the knowledge they have acquired during the training. In a message, the National Programme Coordinator International Fund for Agricultural Development, IFAD, represented by a Director in the organization, Dr. Chyka Unamma said that IFAD would continue to play its role of supporting the participants towards producing their own cassava stem multiplication.

Also the Coordinator of the Programme, Dr. Godwin Asomugha noted that over five thousand bundles of cassava stems would be provided to participants at the end of the programme.
