GLOBAL COMMUNITY MARKS WORLD FOOD DAY
Today, the global community marks 2017 World Food Day.
In November 1979, member countries of Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations established this event to be held annually on the sixteenth of October.
The aim is to raise awareness on the issues behind poverty and hunger in the world.
It focuses on investing in Rural Development to create business opportunities especially for young people in different aspects of agriculture which will in turn lead to food security, more resilient livelihood, reduced conflict over natural resources among other factors that compel people to migrate.
The theme of this year’s event is “Change the Future of Migration: Invest in Food Security and Rural Development”.
