FEDERAL MORTGAGE BANK URGED TO BE PROACTIVE IN PROVIDING AFFORDABLE HOUSING FOR NIGERIAN WORKERS.

fedbank2The Federal Mortgage Bank has been told to take proactive steps to meet the demand of providing affordable housing for Nigerian workers.

The Abia state Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu made the call when a delegation of the Bank executive paid him a courtesy visit at Government House,  Umuahia

Governor Okezie Ikpeazu who observed that house ownership was very important for people in the area because of the socio cultural and economic values attached to it said the government was working in collaboration with a mortgage bank to provide one thousand houses for workers in the state especially the vulnerable among them.

Earlier, the Managing Director of Federal Mortgage Bank, Mr. Richard Esin said they were in the state to inform the government of the bank activities and  explore areas of collaboration with regards to housing.

Mr. Esin announced that the federal government through the bank had approved two hundred billion naira for different housing programmes for Abia state and had refunded about one hundred and thirteen million naira to one thousand eight hundred and ten retired contributors to the National Housing Scheme who were from the state.

He commended the Governor for creating enabling environment for business to thrive in the area and appealed for his intervention on the Unity Garden Estate project with a view to finding lasting solution to problems of actualizing it.
