HEALTH WORKERS AT THE FEDERAL TEACHING HOSPITAL ABAKALIKI, EBONYI STATE EMBARK ON INDEFINITE STRIKE.
Medical Services at Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki in Ebonyi State have suffered a setback following an indefinite strike embarked upon by Health Workers under the aegis of Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals.
Before embarking on the strike, the Health Workers marched from FETHA two to FETHA one of the Hospital where they registered their grievances before the Management.
The Health Workers carried placards with various inscriptions such as effect 2017 incremental step, stagnation must stop and implement consultancy status for other health professionals.
Presenting their demands to the management of the Hospital, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Allied Health Professionals, Comrade Obiefuna Okeke called on the Federal Ministry of Health to address the issue of promotion and settle the arrears of skipping of CONHES Ten withheld since 2011.
On his part, the Chairman Medical and Health Workers Union of Nigeria, Comrade Sabinus Nwofe urged the Federal Ministry of Health and the management of the hospital to urgently address the issues raised to stop other unions from joining the industrial action.
Other demands of the Health workers include payment of 2015 and 2016 promotion arrears, release of the list of Junior to Senior workers conversion and refund of wrong deductions made in the 2016 November and December Salaries.
The Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee of the Federal Teaching Hospital Abakaliki, Dr. Robinson Onoh had while receiving the demands of the workers assured them that the Minister of Health would be duly briefed on the issues raised.
Dr. Onoh emphasized that efforts were being made to introduce a rewarding scheme in the hospital to enhance productivity and industrial harmony.
